About Shibari Shawn
Shibari Shawn is a gay shibari artist and rope bondage educator living in Seattle. He is a member of the Chicago Hellfire Club, Seattle Men in Leather, and education committee for the MenRopingMen Conference.
Shawn started working with rope bondage in 2016. He was an active member of an SM club in Cedar Rapids, Iowa with a rope group called Friction Iowa. He has participated in international shibari conferences, including Rope Craft in Chicago (2018), GRUE in Wisconsin (2019), and Tethered to Wifi (2020). Shawn participated in the 2020 Meet the Master online series with Hajime Kinoko, and took online rope workshops through Studio Friction in Denver, VoxBody in Oakland, California and Rope Burn in San Francisco.
He is the founder and lead instructor at the House of Knotty queer rope studio in Seattle. He is one of the co-organizers of the RopeLab: Seattle, a monthly men’s rope group for intermediate to advanced riggers tying on the masculine form.
Shibari Shawn teaches monthly beginner level rope classes at the House of Knotty. He also teaches at Pan Eros Foundation at Gallery Erato in Seattle and has been a guest presenter at Can You Knot: Los Angeles February 2023, Rope Burn: San Francisco September 2023, and Men in Rope: Austin Texas April 2024.
Over the past 4 years, Shibari Shawn has presented rope workshops at CLAW LA Leather Getaway in Los Angeles. In 2023 he was one of CLAW’s keynote speakers with his presentation titled: Tie Me Tight: Sexual Agency, Hypermasculinity, and Consensual Non Consent. In 2024 he presented rope classes at Austin Kink Weekend, and MenRopingMen in San Francisco. In January 2025 he taught several classes at Westcoast Bound in Vancouver, Canada.
