What do YOU want to shoot?
Are you shooting what you want to shoot, or just what’s expected & what you can easily get? Are you chasing K&P or better images? Are you after a snapshot memento, or are you telling a story?
1 Day Photo Intensive with knot_head
MISSION: Take a small group of photographers, regardless of gear, look at our own photography, and where we’d like to take it.
-
Emphasis on LIGHTING – and how it affects mood
-
Max 15 photographers (with or without a companion model)
-
ANY photographer welcome (yes, including cell phones)
-
STRONGLY SUGGESTED: camera with hot shoe and manual settings
-
Would be nice and you’ll get the most out of it: At least one light (strobe(s), trigger and modifier)
-
CONSTANT LIGHTS are fine, and we will have lights for you to try. (I’ll post a budget shopping list, feel free to DM me with questions or for suggestions.)
Rough Plan of Attack:
subject to adjustment for the skill and interests of the group…
Camera Basics
this will be BRIEF!! (please come with basic knowledge of YOUR gear. How to set White Balance, and basic exposure settings) .
- Exposure – “No free Lunch”
- Green vs Manual. (Please look up how to adjust these BEFORE the workshop)
- White balance (Please know how to adjust this and set custom)
- Where and how to focus
- depth of field . .
Out of the box
genders, bodies, races, role reversal, empowering angles
challenge yourself and don’t just shoot what’s expected.
Effect of lens length and angle. . .
Posing / faces
does the pose / tie fit the bottom and the concept, or is it just your new toy?
Make the tie fit the concept!!
“Face to, body away”
setting realistic expectations. . .
LIGHTING!!
This is what will REALLY improve your images.
Using a Meter – reproducible / predictable results / PREP
Does the light fit / make the mood?
Are you doing that on purpose, or out of laziness?
Constant / Ambient / Mcguyver light
Adding reflector
Single light / Mixed light
Two or more lights
high key –> Constructing proper low key. Wait… it’s not just a black sheet?
Inverse Square Law is your friend
Creating Depth
BE PICKY!! . . .
Critique and deconstruct photos
(bring a couple favorites, whether FET, IG, kink, vanilla, whatever YOU are inspired by)
making an image vs just “capturing” / accepting something.
getting what you want vs just accepting what you get
self critique, and being picky . .
ONE HOUR SHOOT ASSIGNMENT!!
Like Iron Chef or Chopped with Photography Your Concept… as assigned.
Get out of your comfort zone!!
Your Light (…or McGuyvered Light &borrowed gear)
Get help, ask questions Self Critique .
Depending on group size…
…etc, we may instead do a hotel room shoot, and work through some of the lighting options there as a group. Mixed Light, super soft Boudoir, steamy shower, low key, etc…
After Action
- What did you learn?
- What did you realize you WANT to learn?
- I’ll see you all in the “Midnight Master Class” for follow up and expansion on these topics. . . .
