Davey Faye and True Blue have been tying together in rope for the last two years, with a heartfelt dedication to exploring the visceral, the vulnerable, and the exquisite intimacy of breath and artistry that can both weave and unwind through shibari. Together they tempt the shadows and invite the light, showing up to raw surrender and vibrant joy, in a mutual exchange of beauty and strength. Selected photos of their private work and public performances have captured awe and inspired many – for the first time, these two powerhouses of switchy glory will design a full length photoshoot to incite the mind, elate the heart, and boil the blood.
Artist’s Statement
At Ropecraft Chicago 2018, Blue and Davey seek to manifest the creation of something magical. Drawing from Blue’s love of coaxing out the divine feminine and Davey’s enthusiasm for unleashing the primal power of the beast within, this collaborative photo project with exceptional Ropecraft staff photographer Jack Chase seeks to capture the utterly authentic. Ritual objects of power, sensation play, sometimes cheeky interchanges and often sensitive subtleties will combine with intentional ties to reveal struggle, contortion, friction, adoration, and the sublime. Their fascination for erotic nuance and delicious challenge will palpably compose representations of striking shibari art, while simultaneously providing a window to genuine human connection, and leave the viewer curious, stimulated, and breathless.
The desire for art with a heartbeat is tangible, and what better context than rope? Davey and Blue aim to create “art from life” and bare themselves completely and with integrity, with the hope of achieving a pendulum of emotion and experience bridging tweaky and transcendent. Please join us in sponsoring this imaginative venture and come away with access to the entire series of impactful images, preserve a piece of Ropecraft history with signed prints to beautify your home, or treat your senses to the limited opportunity to witness the artists at work. Be a part of something profound, sexy, and real. Who knows where the rope will carry them – please come along for the journey.
This is not an official ROPECRAFT event. ROPECRAFT, Jack Chase, and Gray Miller Creative LLC are providing resources to enable these artists to create something beautiful and be fairly compensated for their skills, time, and materials.
